It's interesting to see how many people buy a painting an then don't take the time to light it properly.  It makes a huge difference in getting the colors to be as vibrant as possible.

But, have you thought about your lighting as you create a painting?  Many people of us just use our overhead lights to paint, sometimes lighting up the canvas the the pallet, and some give no thought at all to it.  So you create a painting under certain lighting conditions that the new owner may not have in their home.  The painting could then look dark, or dull in their home vs what it looked like at your gallery.  Much like going into a jewelry store!  Ever notice how all the gems just sparkle and glow but when they come home they don't?  Art is the same.  The same is true when photographing your art, especially a nocturne scene!
